What are the benefits of the Alexander Technique? When applied, the Technique brings many benefits. It can help with chronic lower back pain, joint and neck pain, stress, tension or anxiety, headaches and migraine, RSI and IBS. It can also help recovery from injury or surgery.
Is the Technique a medical treatment? Although Alexander teachers are highly trained, they do not make medical diagnoses. Medical practitioners acknowledge the many benefits of the Technique, so it is increasingly used alongside both complimentary and orthodox forms of treatment.
Will I be manipulated or massaged? No. The Technique is not a therapy although there are therapeutic benefits. Alexander teachers use their hands in a unique way, completely different to osteopaths or therapists.
Is it like Pilates or yoga? No. The Alexander Technique is an educational self-help process that doesn’t involve exercise or special movements but it can enhance your yoga or Pilates practice.
What is the cost and format of a lesson? Lessons are one-to-one and last 40 minutes. No special clothing is required providing movement is not restricted. Lessons cost £30. Some concessions are available. Contact Deborah for more details.
How many lessons will I need? The number of lessons you have will depend on your individual needs and goals. A series of lessons are recommended for continuing self-improvement, but even a few lessons can make a lasting difference.
